ROCKED BY THE WIND

Sunday night while laying back and watching "The Amazing Race", we felt the truck being rocked by the wind, and by morning, it felt as if we were already in dock being rocked and jerked by a forklift. The wind was gusting up to 40-50mph, as we made our way to AmeriCold in Wallula, WA to get the trailer loaded with 40,000 pounds of frozen meat. After waiting a couple of hours for a dock, they had us loaded and sealed in under 20 minutes and we were headed down the street to scale. Happy with the distribution of the weight on the axles of the truck and trailer, we next did battle with the wind which was relentless as it hit us from all sides except from the rear. The fuel mileage would have been so much better had it been a tailwind, but there wasn't much we could do about that given the direction we were headed. We debated how far we wanted to go, and decided on staying in LaPine, OR for the night, where the wind was still blowing, making the temperature with the windchill well in the 20's. It's a bit ironic, in that ever since we have had the APU issue, we have yet the need to use it. But as we head south, I'm sure we will be able to put it to good use as we hit sunny southern California. This morning the wind is gone, the sun is shining, and the sky is blue. It's a perfect day for driving as we have plans to put 500 miles under our belts. Our plan is to make it to Santa Nella, CA where we will be set up for a nice Starbucks treat in the morning. Life continues to be great in our little world.
